I'll Have The Number #2. The Seafood And Bug Combination Plate, To Go.
CLEVELAND Ohio- When you go out to eat, the law demands that the food is wholesome and prepared in a way that won't make you sick. But one local family that went out for Chinese food takeout said they took home more than just their dinner.
When Mona Lisa Cohen and her daughter brought home dinner, they discovered that the food contained something unexpected... bugs!
"My daughter started eating Seafood Delight, noticed there were a lot of specks on broccoli and then noticed that there were a lot of little bugs," said Cohen.Dozens of little critters were peppered among the greens, veggies and seafood enough to give anyone the creepy crawlies.
"At first I thought it was just seasoning, but when I look closer, I saw that they had legs," said Cohen's daughter, Cinnamon Quinones. The family said it ordered the bug-infested dish from Fu Sheng Chinese Restaurant at Lee Road and Harvard Avenue.
The owners said they hired an exterminator to get rid of the bugs and fixed some other violation issues.
But according to the Cleveland Public Health Department, despite multiple warnings, Fu Sheng has not cleaned up its act. Now the city is taking the restaurant to court.
While health inspectors check regularly, complaints help pinpoint problems, said Cleveland Public Health Director Matt Carroll. The city knows Fu Sheng is a problem, but many customers don't know unless they check first before they eat.
Some of the critical violations health inspectors found include raw chicken being stored above vegetables, a serving spoon resting in warm water for hours and a hand-washing sink that doesn't work all hotspots for bacteria.
