What's so special about Asda's Extra Special Curry Sauce...Duh!!! the dead mouse in it.

(United Kingdom...Daily Mail Online) - When Cate Barrett brought a £1.49 jar of tikka masala sauce from her local Asda store, she was expecting it to contain a bit of a kick.

But what she wasn't expecting to find was the dead mouse which had somehow ended up in the jar - along with the rest of her favourite sauce.

The nursery worker had begun making dinner for herself and her boyfriend, Nigel, when she poured the sauce into the pan, and noticed it was a little lumpy.

As she began stirring the sauce through, she noticed what looked like whiskers and a tail - and immediately knew it was a dead rodent.

The couple took the dead animal and the jar of Asda Extra Special sauce back to the shop where a manager apologised and said it would be sent for examination.

Ms Barrett, of St Austell, Cornwall, said: 'I stirred the sauce around and thought it looked a little bit more lumpy than usual and wondered if we had too many vegetables in the pan.

'Then as the sauce spread out, I saw whiskers, legs, and a tail. I shouted out to Nigel to come to see if it was what I thought it was. Then I fished it out.

'It was a really big shock to see it plop out of the jar. It's going to be a while until I get another one of those tikka masala sauces.'

Ms Barrett said the seal of the jar was firmly in place as the button on the top of the lid was not popped out, which would indicate it had already been opened.

She said she had no idea how the mouse came to be in the jar and she guessed it must have fallen in the moment before the lid was sealed.

She said: 'I wasn't angry but I didn't really know want to do.' she said.

'I went up to the customer services desk and showed them a photo of the mouse. The manger was very apologetic and said they'd send it away for analysis.'

'Asda have been good about it all. I'm not squeamish but that definitely got my heart pumping when I saw it and gave me a real fright.'

Environmental Health and Asda are investigating the incident.

An Asda spokeswoman confirmed the sauce had been sent away for analysis and that a full investigation is currently place.

The spokeswoman told Mail Online it was impossible to say how the mouse got in the jar until the investigation was complete.

'The curry sauce the mouse was in has been sent away for analysis,' she said.

'It will probably be between four and six weeks until we establish where the mouse actually came from.'

The spokeswoman added the company appreciated Ms Barret's patience and that Asda representatives would contact her once the results of the investigation were complete.

Cases of Red Bull Are Being Pulled From Store Shelves By Officials In Several Countries.

BERLIN - Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.

The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per liter in the drink.

Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.

Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment said Monday that the cocaine level was too low to pose a health risk. It planned to produce a more detailed report Wednesday.

Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe." It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavoring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces.

Ex- McDonald's Manager Found Guilty

Longview, Texas -- A six-person jury on Wednesday found a Gladewater woman guilty of violating local food handling ordinances when she was a supervisor at a local McDonald's. Fewer than 5 percent of such complaints ever reach a jury trial, according to the city.

The restaurant, at 128 W. Loop 281, was not cited. The jury, however, found Laura Deann Blaylock guilty of allowing employees to serve buns that had signs of rodent damage to customers in March, 2009.

During a routine inspection on March 25, city inspectors Rosalind Jones and Leisha Kidd-Brooks found rodent droppings on 12 packages of sesame seed buns and reported that employees served those buns to customers. Jones cited Blaylock for the damaged buns and for employees seen carrying food barehanded without documentation that they had received proper training in food handling.

Kidd-Brooks said Thursday that the violations were corrected before a subsequent inspection.

Blaylock, who no longer works for McDonald's, worked Thursday at a local retailer and was unavailable for comment. Her husband, Jeff Blaylock, said his wife left McDonald's because of difficult working relationships and because the restaurant refused to accept responsibility for the violations.

On Wednesday, Blaylock testified to jurors that she reported the violations to her supervisors at McDonald's but nothing was corrected, said her husband, who attended the trial.

Blaylock must either appeal or pay $873 in fines and court costs within 10 days to avoid jail time, court officials said.

"We're dead broke," the husband said. "What's the incentive for McDonald's to clean anything up?"

McDonald's representatives in Longview and at the restaurant's corporate office in Illinois did not return calls for comment.

Five Guys Locations Closed After Visit from Inside Edition's 'Rat Patrol'

The news and entertainment television show Inside Edition's "Rat Patrol" returned to the District this week, taking aim, perhaps predictably, at the various D.C. fast food joints recently frequented by the Obamas. The television program confirmed that two of the eateries featured in the upcoming episode were Five Guys restaurants, including the Dupont Circle location where Michelle Obama took members of her staff for lunch back in February. Indeed, the Five Guys located at 1645 Connecticut Ave NW is shuttered this morning, with a sign on the door explaining that the fast food restaurant is "closed until further notice."

D.C. Department of Health spokesperson Dena Iverson said that the closure was not a city action; Inside Edition says it found a pack of rats right outside the back door of the restaurant two nights in a row, and that's apparently prompted Five Guys to decide to shut down for clean up as a preventive measure.

Another Five Guy’s location, on Wisconsin Ave. in Georgetown, was also a target of the show. Inside Edition say they observed an "unwelcome visitor inside the restaurant crawling through sacks of potatoes kept right inside the front window," two nights in a row. The Georgetown location is reportedly also closed today.

A call to Five Guys has yet to be returned, but Inside Edition forwarded us a statement they say came from the company's corporate headquarters: "The health and safety of our customers is of primary importance at Five Guys." The company told the show that the two closed stores will not reopen until they are certain they are rodent free.

I Have Heard Of Crabs In A Pot...But Crabs In A Potty??

A Sydney Australia fish market that stored crabs in a toilet cubicle is a new addition to the NSW Government's name and shame list.

Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said Jemes Fish Market on Liverpool Road, Ashfield, in the city's inner west, was hit with two fines of $660 for storing live crabs in a toilet cubicle.

"This is one of the most outrageous cases of food storage I have ever heard about. It is unhygienic and is just not fair on consumers who pay good money for their food," Mr Macdonald said in a statement.
