What's so special about Asda's Extra Special Curry Sauce...Duh!!! the dead mouse in it.

(United Kingdom...Daily Mail Online) - When Cate Barrett brought a £1.49 jar of tikka masala sauce from her local Asda store, she was expecting it to contain a bit of a kick.

But what she wasn't expecting to find was the dead mouse which had somehow ended up in the jar - along with the rest of her favourite sauce.

The nursery worker had begun making dinner for herself and her boyfriend, Nigel, when she poured the sauce into the pan, and noticed it was a little lumpy.

As she began stirring the sauce through, she noticed what looked like whiskers and a tail - and immediately knew it was a dead rodent.

The couple took the dead animal and the jar of Asda Extra Special sauce back to the shop where a manager apologised and said it would be sent for examination.

Ms Barrett, of St Austell, Cornwall, said: 'I stirred the sauce around and thought it looked a little bit more lumpy than usual and wondered if we had too many vegetables in the pan.

'Then as the sauce spread out, I saw whiskers, legs, and a tail. I shouted out to Nigel to come to see if it was what I thought it was. Then I fished it out.

'It was a really big shock to see it plop out of the jar. It's going to be a while until I get another one of those tikka masala sauces.'

Ms Barrett said the seal of the jar was firmly in place as the button on the top of the lid was not popped out, which would indicate it had already been opened.

She said she had no idea how the mouse came to be in the jar and she guessed it must have fallen in the moment before the lid was sealed.

She said: 'I wasn't angry but I didn't really know want to do.' she said.

'I went up to the customer services desk and showed them a photo of the mouse. The manger was very apologetic and said they'd send it away for analysis.'

'Asda have been good about it all. I'm not squeamish but that definitely got my heart pumping when I saw it and gave me a real fright.'

Environmental Health and Asda are investigating the incident.

An Asda spokeswoman confirmed the sauce had been sent away for analysis and that a full investigation is currently place.

The spokeswoman told Mail Online it was impossible to say how the mouse got in the jar until the investigation was complete.

'The curry sauce the mouse was in has been sent away for analysis,' she said.

'It will probably be between four and six weeks until we establish where the mouse actually came from.'

The spokeswoman added the company appreciated Ms Barret's patience and that Asda representatives would contact her once the results of the investigation were complete.

Cases of Red Bull Are Being Pulled From Store Shelves By Officials In Several Countries.

BERLIN - Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.

The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per liter in the drink.

Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.

Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment said Monday that the cocaine level was too low to pose a health risk. It planned to produce a more detailed report Wednesday.

Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe." It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavoring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces.

Ex- McDonald's Manager Found Guilty

Longview, Texas -- A six-person jury on Wednesday found a Gladewater woman guilty of violating local food handling ordinances when she was a supervisor at a local McDonald's. Fewer than 5 percent of such complaints ever reach a jury trial, according to the city.

The restaurant, at 128 W. Loop 281, was not cited. The jury, however, found Laura Deann Blaylock guilty of allowing employees to serve buns that had signs of rodent damage to customers in March, 2009.

During a routine inspection on March 25, city inspectors Rosalind Jones and Leisha Kidd-Brooks found rodent droppings on 12 packages of sesame seed buns and reported that employees served those buns to customers. Jones cited Blaylock for the damaged buns and for employees seen carrying food barehanded without documentation that they had received proper training in food handling.

Kidd-Brooks said Thursday that the violations were corrected before a subsequent inspection.

Blaylock, who no longer works for McDonald's, worked Thursday at a local retailer and was unavailable for comment. Her husband, Jeff Blaylock, said his wife left McDonald's because of difficult working relationships and because the restaurant refused to accept responsibility for the violations.

On Wednesday, Blaylock testified to jurors that she reported the violations to her supervisors at McDonald's but nothing was corrected, said her husband, who attended the trial.

Blaylock must either appeal or pay $873 in fines and court costs within 10 days to avoid jail time, court officials said.

"We're dead broke," the husband said. "What's the incentive for McDonald's to clean anything up?"

McDonald's representatives in Longview and at the restaurant's corporate office in Illinois did not return calls for comment.

Five Guys Locations Closed After Visit from Inside Edition's 'Rat Patrol'

The news and entertainment television show Inside Edition's "Rat Patrol" returned to the District this week, taking aim, perhaps predictably, at the various D.C. fast food joints recently frequented by the Obamas. The television program confirmed that two of the eateries featured in the upcoming episode were Five Guys restaurants, including the Dupont Circle location where Michelle Obama took members of her staff for lunch back in February. Indeed, the Five Guys located at 1645 Connecticut Ave NW is shuttered this morning, with a sign on the door explaining that the fast food restaurant is "closed until further notice."

D.C. Department of Health spokesperson Dena Iverson said that the closure was not a city action; Inside Edition says it found a pack of rats right outside the back door of the restaurant two nights in a row, and that's apparently prompted Five Guys to decide to shut down for clean up as a preventive measure.

Another Five Guy’s location, on Wisconsin Ave. in Georgetown, was also a target of the show. Inside Edition say they observed an "unwelcome visitor inside the restaurant crawling through sacks of potatoes kept right inside the front window," two nights in a row. The Georgetown location is reportedly also closed today.

A call to Five Guys has yet to be returned, but Inside Edition forwarded us a statement they say came from the company's corporate headquarters: "The health and safety of our customers is of primary importance at Five Guys." The company told the show that the two closed stores will not reopen until they are certain they are rodent free.

I Have Heard Of Crabs In A Pot...But Crabs In A Potty??

A Sydney Australia fish market that stored crabs in a toilet cubicle is a new addition to the NSW Government's name and shame list.

Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said Jemes Fish Market on Liverpool Road, Ashfield, in the city's inner west, was hit with two fines of $660 for storing live crabs in a toilet cubicle.

"This is one of the most outrageous cases of food storage I have ever heard about. It is unhygienic and is just not fair on consumers who pay good money for their food," Mr Macdonald said in a statement.

Couple Finds Baby Rodent In Food Court Stir-Fry

WINNIPEG, Canada — A baby rodent is not what one might expect to find in one’s chicken mushroom stir-fry.

But that’s what a Winnipeg couple says they found after they dug into their lunch from a Sizzling Wok outlet at the ST.VITAL CENTRE 86-1225 St. Mary's Road Winnipeg, MB R2M 5E5 food court this past weekend (May 9, 2009).

The discovery is even making health inspectors queasy.

“I’m shocked and dismayed,” Mike LeBlanc, manager of public health inspection programs, said Monday.

“This obviously is a very disturbing finding. It does not at all meet the threshold of what we even consider acceptable food practices.”

Sizzling Wok has voluntarily closed the outlet for now. Officials with the St. Vital Centre shopping mall said they contacted the city health department and stressed the restaurant will not reopen until it is cleared by health inspectors.

“We are looking into the matter as you can understand,” said mall spokeswoman Cheryl Mazur. “As soon as we were aware of the situation we had a huge concern.”

LeBlanc said tests have yet to determine the exact nature of the mystery meat.

“Just by looking at this, I can’t determine whether or not it’s a mouse, a baby mouse or a baby rat but it is obviously a baby rodent of some sort,” said LeBlanc.

Investigators also aren’t sure where the wee rodent came from — whether it was the restaurant itself or maybe a food supplier.

Snake’s Head Found In Broccoli at T.G.I. Friday’s In Clifton Park, New York

CLIFTON PARK, New York -- The sight of a severed snake's head under his broccoli made Jack Pendleton lose interest in dessert. Pendleton said he found the head, the size of the end of his thumb, while eating Sunday at the T.G.I. Friday's in Clifton Park. The chain restaurant said it regrets the appetite-killing error. Pendleton said he has no plans to sue.

Pendleton said he ordered vegetables instead of fries with his chicken sandwich. When he started to eat his broccoli, he saw something gray on the plate he at first thought was a mushroom. "I start to turn it over. I see this gray-green patch," he said.

Next he saw a V-shape that turned out to be the mouth of a snake. "I could see these black, rotted eye sockets on the top," he said. The severed head also had bits of tendon and part of the spine attached, he said.

"I stopped eating. I told my girlfriend, 'I think this is a head,'" he said.

Pendleton snapped a photo with his cellphone camera, then summoned the waiter. He covered the dish with his hand and described his find.

"He thought I was joking until I took my hand away," Pendleton said. The waiter grabbed the plate and took it back to the kitchen, the diner said.

"The manager came over white as a sheet," said Pendleton, 28, of Ballston Lake, a senior art director for a textbook company in Clifton Park. "He explained in five years he'd never run into anything like this."

Amy Freshwater, a spokeswoman for the chain, said in an e-mailed statement the company is trying to determine what happened.

"We are taking this situation very seriously," she said. "We immediately pulled the broccoli from this restaurant and began an extensive investigation. As a precautionary measure, we pulled broccoli from all restaurants that received product from this supplier. We have since isolated the specific lot date of the broccoli in question and have now reintroduced the product in all restaurants not included in the product hold."

The supplier has been contacted to begin its own investigation, she said. "We are sending the object to an independent laboratory for testing," Freshwater said in the statement. "We have very strict and thorough safety and sanitation procedures and regret that this situation occurred in one of our restaurants."

The couple were given their meals without charge and offered the name of a regional manager, which Pendleton said he declined. He said he advised the manager he should check the kitchen to make sure the rest of the snake wasn't in someone else's meal. He also told the manager the head should have been found when the vegetables were harvested or, if it crawled into a box, before it made it into his meal.

Pendleton said he filed a complaint through the restaurant's Web site but has no plans to sue. He tried to contact the Saratoga County Health Department, he said, but he could not find contact information on its Web site. His story also was posted on the Web site the Consumerist, under the headline "Snakes on a Plate."

He and his girlfriend had planned to attend a carnival after their meals, he said, but as he pulled into the lot he decided he didn't have the stomach to go on the rides.

Don't Let Your Kids Eat Raccoon Terds

Parents should be on alert for raccoon roundworm, a rare parasite transmitted through contact with the animal's feces, which has left an infant with brain damage and a teenager blind, says New York City's health department.

Raccoon roundworm or Baylisascaris procyonis is an extremely rare parasitic infection in humans that can cause nausea, nerve damage and even death.

People become infected by swallowing the parasite's eggs that are shed in the feces of infected raccoons.

Parents should supervise children to keep them away from raccoon feces, Sally Slavinski, a spokeswoman for the city's health department, said Monday.

Any droppings should be picked up using gloves and disposed of in trash bags.

There are fewer than 30 cases reported in the medical literature, the city noted in a health alert it sent to the city's doctors on April 9.

Roundworms lay eggs in feces that hatch after being invested and travel through the body, including to the brain.

The infant has been hospitalized since suffering seizures and spinal problems last October and now has permanent brain damage.

The infant had a history of eating soil, and swallowing soil contaminated with raccoon feces is the most likely source of infection, the city's alert said. The 17-year-old lost sight in the right eye in January. Both are from Brooklyn.

"Avoiding Baylisascaris means avoiding ingestion of raccoon stool," veterinarian Scott Weese of the University of Guelph wrote in his blog, Worms & Germs, which promotes safe pet ownership.

"Sounds simple enough, but this is of particular concern with young children and people with developmental delays who are more likely to swallow contaminated dirt or stool, or put dirty/contaminated hands or objects in their mouths."

The city's alert did not include any details about how the teen was exposed.

In September 2005, Toronto Public Health issued a similar alert after a seven-year-old boy with a history of autism and developmental delays was infected with raccoon roundworm.

Wolfgang Puck Sued Over Crappy Potty Experience

Apr 28th 2009 - "TMZ" is reporting that Wolfgang Puck is being sued over a restaurant bathroom -- not because a woman claims it was covered in "urine and feces" but because someone allegedly ripped her off the crapper while she was in mid-squat.

The woman claims she just wanted to take care of some toilet business during a lunch at Puck's most famous Beverly Hills restaurant, Spago back in 2007. But according to the lawsuit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, the bathroom floor was covered in "standing pools of urine and feces" -- and the only usable toilet didn't have a lock on the door.

Here's where it gets messy -- the woman, Majorie Linden, claims she had to use one of her hands to hold the door closed while she took care of business on the throne. But mid-squat, with her hand stuck firmly on the handle, another woman allegedly yanked the door open causing Linden to fall "face-first onto the tile floor."

Marjorie claims the fall broke her back, messed up her knee, and caused serious mental damage -- among other things. Needless to say, she's suing.

But reps for Spago claim the woman is completely full of crap when it comes to the cleanliness of their bathrooms -- "In our 27 years of business we've never had an issue close to this ... that portion of the claim is totally without merit."

Urine Spray Man Gets Nine Years.

BBC News -- A chemist who contaminated food and wine in Gloucestershire (UK) supermarkets with his own urine and faeces has been sent to prison for nine years.

Sahnoun Daifallah, 42, of Bibury Road, Gloucester, was found guilty of four counts of contaminating goods at four businesses in May 2008.

Judge Carol Hagen said at the hearing in March that she found him to be "a potentially very dangerous man".

Daifallah, who defended himself, had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Bristol Crown Court had heard the Algerian-born chemist sprayed the mixture in the Air Balloon Pub, in Birdlip, near Cheltenham on 14 and 16 May.

He then moved on to the Waterstones bookstore in Cirencester, Tesco in Quedgley and Morrisons in Abbeydale.

The court heard shoppers and staff in both stores saw Daifallah with a black laptop computer with a vapour coming from the bag being sprayed on the shelves.

The cost of damaged products and lost business due to resulting store closures was estimated at £700,000.

When police searched his house they found stockpiles of the mixture and plans to spread it in other cities including Bristol and Birmingham.

Daifallah, who had fantasies about biological weapons to cause public alarm, was also found guilty of having an offensive weapon, namely a catapult with marbles.

Judge Carol Hagen sentenced him to concurrent sentences of three years, five years and two of nine years for the contamination offences and 12 months for possession of a weapon.

She added she had wanted to jail him indefinitely but the law would not allow her to.

"Your actions showed a callous disregard for public safety and you caused considerable alarm and anxiety," she said.

Proceedings to deport him are underway.

The Self-Professed “Bad Boy For Life”...Needs To Clean Up His Act.

Sean John Combs, aka...Diddy (other nicknames include Puff Daddy, P. Diddy and Puffy), owns a restaurant in Atlanta called Justin’s. On March 17, 2009, Justin's failed a health inspection receiving a “U” for unsatisfactory. The report stated that chicken, pork and shellfish were at unsafe temperatures. Plus, there was mold in the ice machine and fruit flies in the restaurant.

So many would ask, "whats the big deal about fruit flies"?

Well, here is a FYI about fruit flies.

Fruit flies lay their eggs near the surface of fermenting foods or other moist, organic materials. Upon emerging, the tiny larvae continue to feed near the surface of the fermenting mass. This surface-feeding characteristic of the larvae is significant in that damaged or over-ripened portions of fruits and vegetables can be cut away without having to discard the remainder for fear of retaining any developing larvae. The reproductive potential of fruit flies is enormous; given the opportunity, they will lay about 500 eggs.

Fruit flies are especially attracted to ripened fruits and vegetables in the kitchen. But they also will breed in drains, garbage disposals, empty bottles and cans, trash containers, mops and cleaning rags. All that is needed for development is a moist film of fermenting material. Infestations can originate from over-ripened fruits or vegetables that were previously infested and brought into the home. The adults can also fly in from outside through inadequately screened windows and doors.

Fruit flies have the potential to contaminate food with bacteria and other disease-producing organisms.

Woman Called Cops Over Shrimp Dish.

HALTOM CITY, Texas - A woman dialed 911 on Monday (April 6,2009) afternoon to report that she didn’t get extra shrimp in her fried rice order.

The incident happened at A&D Buffalo's in the 4000 block of East Belknap Street.

Restaurant' employees said the woman originally left with her order, but came back claiming she did not get her full $1.62 worth of extra shrimp. Since she had already left the building with her food, they refused to give her a refund.

"She started yelling and screaming, brought her boyfriend in and they started making a scene in here," said Alex Kim, the restaurant's attorney.

Employees said that's when the irate woman called 911 to try to get help from the police.

"I always get the shrimp fried rice, so I said I'm going to get extra meat this time. But he didn’t even put extra shrimp in there," she told the 911 operator.

The woman also told the operator that she demanded either a refund or the additional crustaceans, and that she decided to place the emergency call when she was met with resistance.

"I'm just saying, to get a police officer up here, what has to happen?" the caller asked the operator.

A Haltom City police officer was dispatched to the scene, but the woman was no longer at the restaurant when he arrived.

Police spokesman Cody Phillips said she likely will not be punished for her call.

"You have to make a phone call in a non-emergency situation and remain silent or be abusive or obscene to the 911 call taker. She was none of those things," Phillips said.

FDA Eyes NY Firm In Pistachio Recall Probe.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities looking into the nationwide pistachio recall say they're investigating a California nut processor's sister company in New York where officials last month found cockroaches and rodent droppings.

The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday that Commack, N.Y.-based Setton International Foods Inc.(85 Austin Blvd. Commack, NY 11725) shares key staff and packages food with Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., the second-largest pistachio processor in the nation,

The central California firm earlier this week recalled 2 million pounds of nuts over fears of possible salmonella contamination.

Last month, New York agricultural authorities found live and dead cockroaches and rodent droppings inside the Commack plant, which failed its state health inspection.

Britain's Worst Pub Kitchen

This picture shows the conditions inside Britain's worst pub kitchen, the Rose and Crown in Thaxted, Essex (United Kingdom), where inspectors found nearly 200 items of rotting food. Environmental health officials immediately closed the establishment after discovering the piles of expired ingredients.

Work surfaces and utensils were smothered in thick grease, floors littered with rotting detritus and fridges covered in mould and dozens of dirty food containers.

The kitchen did not even have any running hot running water meaning staff could not wash up or clean their hands properly.

Inspectors found the owner was still preparing food in the rancid conditions.

The discovery was made after a surprise inspection by environmental health officers from Uttlesford District Council on December 9 last year.

In total, 190 items of "mouldy, slimy, putrescent or expired foodstuffs" were found at the scene.

The owner of the pub, Nicholas Marchetto, pleaded guilty to 23 food and hygiene offences at Harlow Magistrates' Court.

He was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay another £1,000 towards the council's costs.

Geoff Smith, the council's head of environmental health, described the conditions at the pub as "totally unacceptable".

He said: "The conditions demonstrated a complete breakdown of any hygiene management controls and a disregard for consumer safety when food continued to be prepared in the conditions found.

"The large quantity unfit for human consumption on the premises had placed public health at risk.

The CFIA is working with Loblaw Companies Limited and the Guelph Police Service to investigate tampering of meat products at the No Frills Store located on Silvercreek Parkway in Guelph. A number of products have been found to contain 50 mm sewing needles.

The World's Deadliest Spider Found In A Tulsa Whole Foods Store.

TULSA, OK -- The world's deadliest spider found in a Tulsa grocery store. An employee at Whole Foods Market at 1401 East 41st Street found a Brazilian Wandering Spider wandering around in their produce section.

The store handed the spider over to biologists at the University of Tulsa who say that employee is lucky to be alive.

Terry Childs is the director of TU's Animal Facilities and a self-proclaimed spider lover. He has a scary-looking but harmless friend Cuddles the tarantula. He is harmless, unless you're an insect.

"The venom starts to break the prey down on the inside and then she slurps it out kind of like a smoothie," said Terry Childs.

Childs' department is now home to a Brazilian Wandering Spider. It's being kept in a terrarium with a do not disturb sign. More people die from the spider's bite than any other spider in the world.

"Within minutes you will have breathing problems, you'll start to lose control of your muscles, you'll start to drool and within 20 to 25 minutes you'll probably collapse on the floor and die of asphyxiation," said Terry Childs.

And, that's why he says people at Tulsa's Whole Foods market are lucky to be alive.

On Sunday an employee found the spider wandering across the bananas in the produce section.

"She managed to capture it in one of these containers until I got there," said Terry Childs.

Apparently the spider, also known as a banana spider, hitched a ride on some bunches of bananas all the way from Honduras. It turns out it is the kind of thing that happens all the time, but this particular spider is more threatening than most.

"This particular one happens to be one of the most aggressive ones I've actually come across. This thing will actually jump at you," said Terry Childs.

A manager at Whole Foods wouldn't talk on camera but said they check their produce for spider and insects. In fact, he said, that's how the world's deadliest spider was found in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"There is an antidote for the bite of this spider. Unfortunately I don't think we have any around here," said Terry Childs with the University of Tulsa.

The spider will not stay at TU for long. It will likely be taken to another university for research.

Deputy Reports Finding Pubic Hair On Fast-Food Sandwich.

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. -- Charges are pending against two fast-food restaurant employees after a sheriff's deputy said he found pubic hair on his sandwich.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, the deputy went through the Wendy's drive-through in Moundsville Sunday night before heading to work.

He finished his chili and opened his sandwich. It was then he said he spotted the ball of pubic hair.

Later, Wendy's employees Thomas Bender and Joshua Monroe confessed to the crime and said they purposely targeted an officer, Chief Deputy Kevin Cecil said.

Cecil said 32-year-old Bender admitted to putting the hair on the food, and 20-year-old Monroe admitted he encouraged Bender to do it.

A charge of tampering with food is pending for Bender. Monroe could be charged with aiding and abetting or conspiracy, police said.

Deputies are waiting for Bender's blood test results. If he has any diseases, the misdemeanor charge will be escalated to a felony.

Cecil said the whole incident has police disgusted.

"(Officers) don’t have a chance to go home and get a meal and have to rely on these places," Cecil said. "And who knows if this has happened in the past? This time we caught somebody."

Cecil said the Sheriff's Department, the Health Department and Wendy's are all investigating.

The owner of the Moundsville Wendy’s said he is cooperating fully with police on this investigation.

Though the investigation is ongoing, he said if this did in fact happen, there’s every indication that this would be an isolated case and there is not an ongoing food safety issue at the restaurant.

The employees in question have been suspended as part of the investigation, according to the store owner.

Woman Contaminated Dairy Queen Malts With Ajax.

FERNDALE, Wash. -- An employee of a Ferndale Dairy Queen says she “accidentally” poured Ajax into the malt dispenser, sickening two customers, according to court documents.

Alexandra Margot Georgia Dale, 44, has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault in connection with the poisoned malts.

Two men reported burning sensations in their mouth and on their tongue after consuming the malt beverages from a Dairy Queen located in the 5600 block of Riverside Drive on Feb. 25,2009.

One victim said that he tasted something funny when he took the first bite of his chocolate malt. When he took a second bite, he said he felt a burning sensation in his mouth.

He alerted the Dairy Queen Manager and by the time he got home, he had three red chemical burns on his tongue. They went away a couple days later.

A second man had worse injuries. He had to stay in the hospital for two days with medical issues including ulcers located in his esophagus, detectives with the Ferndale Police Department said.

According to probable cause documents, when the Health Department tested the victim’s malt, they found it was contaminated with Dairy Queen’s fat fryer cleaner, Ajax.

Detectives obtained surveillance video and saw the employee, Dale, pouring the Ajax into the malt dispenser, documents said.

She was later arrested on March 6.

When she was questioned by the detectives, Dale gave several different stories.

Documents stated Dale first said she followed the proper procedure to fill the malt dispenser. When she was told there was surveillance video, Dale then said she had never filled the dispenser before Feb. 19, when she contaminated the malts.

Dale went on to tell detectives that she has been a manager at another Dairy Queen and knows how to use the malt dispenser, detective said.

Eventually Dale said she “accidentally poured the chemical into the malt dispenser,” according to documents.

Detectives said in their opinion, the malt mix and the Ajax container “could not be confused.”

Dale’s motive is still unknown

10 Kids Drink Windshield Wiper Fluid At Arkansas Day Care.

LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Ten children drank windshield wiper fluid after a staffer at an Arkansas day care served it from a container mistaken for Kool-Aid and placed in a refrigerator, authorities said Friday.

The day care owner surrendered her state license, meaning she wouldn't be able to take care of children in the future, said Julie Munsell, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Human Services.

Doctors estimate the children, ages 2 to 7, drank about an ounce of the blue fluid late Thursday afternoon before realizing it tasted wrong, said Laura James, a pediatric pharmacologist and toxicologist at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

Only one child remained hospitalized Friday morning, after blood samples showed "measurable levels" of methanol, a highly toxic alcohol that can induce comas and cause blindness, officials said. The day care also provided the fluid for testing.

The windshield wiper fluid was bought with several other items on a recent shopping trip, James told The Associated Press. "This product was mistakenly grabbed and thought to be Kool-Aid and put in the refrigerator," she said.

The day care's operator, Carolyn Bynum, was interviewed Friday by child welfare investigators and gave up her license, Munsell said. Bynum declined to comment to the Associated Press.

"She was so upset about what had occurred and she was definitely worried some of the children had been injured," Munsell said. "It was just a mistake, she says. She says it was just a horrible mistake."

Bynum's license had allowed her to care for 10 children in her home in Scott, about 15 miles east of Little Rock. Munsell said Bynum had no found complaints or serious compliance issues in the past.

The toxicologist warned that many antifreeze or windshield wiper solutions have bright colors, which can be mistaken for fruit drinks.

"I think the take-home message is not to have these products in the kitchen or where you're doing any kind of food preparation," she said.

Sliced Mouse Found In Frozen Peppers.

(Metro.co.uk) Thursday, March 12, 2009 - It was the moment when mother Andrea Smith was put off peppers for life.

As she began making dinner using a bag of frozen peppers, she looked into the pan and recoiled with horror.

'My partner poured the peppers into a pan and was startled to find a clump of mouse fur and intestines falling out of the bag,' said the 37-year-old.

After leaving it to defrost you could see the slice marks – it looked as if it had passed through a shredder with the peppers. The sight and thought of it made me feel sick. Mice carry all sorts of germs and there is no telling what my family could have caught.'

Miss Smith, a mother of one, bought the bag from her local Morrisons supermarket in Gosport, Hampshire (United Kingdom).

A manager was sent round to collect the corpse and carried out an investigation. Tests revealed it was a field mouse.

Bosses described the incident as a one-off and wrote a letter of apology to Miss Smith, in which they offered her a bottle of wine and vouchers to spend in store.

'I think the memory is going to stay with me for a long time,' said Miss Smith.

A Morrisons spokesman thanked her for 'bringing this to our attention'.

'We take the quality and the safety of all the products that we sell very seriously indeed,' the spokesman added.

'We would like to reassure her and our customers that this is an isolated incident.'
