Deputy Reports Finding Pubic Hair On Fast-Food Sandwich.
MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. -- Charges are pending against two fast-food restaurant employees after a sheriff's deputy said he found pubic hair on his sandwich.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, the deputy went through the Wendy's drive-through in Moundsville Sunday night before heading to work.
He finished his chili and opened his sandwich. It was then he said he spotted the ball of pubic hair.
Later, Wendy's employees Thomas Bender and Joshua Monroe confessed to the crime and said they purposely targeted an officer, Chief Deputy Kevin Cecil said.
Cecil said 32-year-old Bender admitted to putting the hair on the food, and 20-year-old Monroe admitted he encouraged Bender to do it.
A charge of tampering with food is pending for Bender. Monroe could be charged with aiding and abetting or conspiracy, police said.
Deputies are waiting for Bender's blood test results. If he has any diseases, the misdemeanor charge will be escalated to a felony.
Cecil said the whole incident has police disgusted.
"(Officers) don’t have a chance to go home and get a meal and have to rely on these places," Cecil said. "And who knows if this has happened in the past? This time we caught somebody."
Cecil said the Sheriff's Department, the Health Department and Wendy's are all investigating.
The owner of the Moundsville Wendy’s said he is cooperating fully with police on this investigation.
Though the investigation is ongoing, he said if this did in fact happen, there’s every indication that this would be an isolated case and there is not an ongoing food safety issue at the restaurant.
The employees in question have been suspended as part of the investigation, according to the store owner.
