"There Were Mouse Feces Everywhere We Looked...."
WATERBURY, Connecticut -- The Health Department ordered the closure of Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken on West Main Street for serious and persistent violations of sanitation codes.
"The place is just absolutely mind-boggling," said Health Director William Campbell. "There were mouse feces everywhere we looked. They must have one of the worst rodent infestations imaginable -- on the food, in the public area, everywhere we looked."
Campbell said he will be meeting with the restaurant owner today to discuss a cleanup plan that will allow the restaurant at 744 W. Main St. to resume operations.
The effort will take a while, Campbell said, because the extent of the violations was so severe.
Gilbert Small, owner of the chicken restaurant that's been a fixture on West Main Street for years, said his manager quit while he was away in Europe and "things just got out of hand."
