Flies Shut Down Dragon Fly Restaurant
CHICAGO- The Dragon Fly Mandarin restaurant apparently lived up to its name, and so the Department of Streets & Sanitation shut it down because of an infestation of flying insects.
The Task Force arrived at the restaurant, located at 832 W. Randolph St., and was told by management that the establishment was closed due to housekeeping issues, according to a release from Street & Sanitation. Following the inspection, the owners were told they could not reopen because of unsanitary conditions, the release said.
Inspectors found more than 180 flies (living and dead) and roaches throughout the food preparation areas, inside the stove, in cooking equipment, on utensils, counters, cutting boards, work tables, shelving and around a drain, the release said. Numerous dead roaches were also found in a grease pan.
When inspectors returned for a follow-up, they found the restaurant preparing to serve lunch and had not corrected any of the problems the Task Force had identified,” Streets & San Commissioner Mike Picardi said in a statement. “We had no options other than closure.”
The Dragon Fly Mandarin has been shut down and cited for critical violations due to previous serious violations not being corrected, including inadequate pest control, failure to protect food due to unsafe contact surfaces and accumulation of garbage and grease around grounds of dumpsters and grease containers.
